I process the world uniquely, just like you do, just like we all do. I believe our sacred path is about learning how to honor and understand our unique perspective so we can be in conversation with our divinity and create the life we desire.

Recently, while traveling in Costa Rica I asked the land to show me signs and clues about the next chapter of my art expression in the world. As I sent out my request, I opened to receive clues and almost instantly a Dragonfly swooped by in front of me.

In my way of processing the world, this was a sign. Even though I didn’t understand the full communication of this sign yet, I was excited by it and wanted to explore what this Dragonfly Spirit Guide wanted to teach me. So, I started to sketch it out…

While sketching and dreaming into the Dragonfly, I started noticing all the large green leaves surrounding me in the Costa Rican forests.  Then I had a vision…

I had a vision of creating a giant Dragonfly using elements of the land, and becoming the Dragonfly so I could experience the world from its perspective.

Once the vision landed, more questions arose. How would I actually create a giant Dragonfly? Where would I do this? How would I become the Dragonfly? What would I learn if I could be a Dragonfly? What does the Dragonfly want to teach me?

All these questions fueled my desires even more! I could feel the Dragonfly calling me to create it so it could teach me more.

Traveling through Costa Rica with my creative soulmate Kevin Thom was an adventure. Once my Dragonfly Spirit Guide vision landed, I expressed it to him and he was on board to help bring it to life with his loving support as well as his photographic genius.

We started exploring off the beaten track roads and trails to look for a place to make it happen. We ended up discovering and meeting a local farmer that we eventually hired to gather leaves for us and give us permission to use his land to bring this vision to life. With the help of Brendan Jaffer-Thom, he showed the farmer my sketches and translated my ideas to the farmer. I don’t think the farmer fully grasped why I wanted to create a giant Dragonfly, but he was happy to help and be part of the creation.

Once we had our location and an abundance of supplies, Kevin and I laughed at first then got to work building.  We were surrounded by a pile of leaves in a vast green field. The giggles stopped when we realized the sun was starting to set and we only had a narrow window of time to build the Dragonfly and get a photo of the creation while it was still light out.

Kevin and I chopped, piled, pulled, gathered, stacked and placed all the elements to build this giant Dragonfly Spirit Guide. Here’s what Kevin said about his experience:

“What an adventure it was to bring the dragonfly to life! We wound our way through a massive palm plantation and bumped our way down a mysterious, unmarked back road in our 4×4 to locate the perfect location. It was important for us to make use of local Costa Rican human and natural resources, so we found and hired the Costa Rican farmer who worked that land to provide us with banana leaves and palm fronds. He even loaned me his extremely sharp machete to cut our building materials down to size. As the sun set in a blaze of golden fire, our magical, mythical dragonfly was born!”- Kevin Thom

Once all the leaves were placed, it was time to transform and merge with my Dragonfly Spirit Guide and see the world from its perspective. I sat in the heart of its body for a moment and meditated. I simply said  “Let me hear your heart and understand what you want me to know.”

As the sun started to set, Kevin photographed me in communion with my Dragonfly Spirit Guide.  It was an absolutely glorious experience.

Creating and communing with my Dragonfly Spirit Guide offered so many messages, I am still processing the teachings of this vision.

What I’ve learned so far from my Dragonfly Spirit Guide:

• Use what you have.
• Work with the land and let the resources that you have access to be the resources you use.
• Be curious.
• Be bold.
• Be part of nature.
• Be willing to try something you’ve never done before.
• Don’t let language be a barrier to communication. Find creative ways to communicate.
• Be willing to do the work it takes to bring a vision to life.
• Be willing to see the world from a fresh perspective to expand your own perspective.
• Let people help you realize your dreams.
• Be willing to be what you dream of being.
