During a recent cleaning binge in my storage room I re-discovered some creative projects I was part of years ago.
About 10 years ago I created the costumes and illustrations for a play called ‘Night Cows’
I was delighted to find this picture that captured the paper mache process for a dozen cow heads that I sculpted. I remember rummaging through all the blue boxes to get the recycled newspaper to complete the project.
I sure used a lot of newspaper!
Now I sculpt mainly with found objects like trees, feathers, bones along with fabrics and wool.
As an artist I think it is important to be conscious of the art you made in the past because it helps to make sense of what you are creating now and shows whether you are growing and evolving or not. Another bonus in reflecting on past art is the ability to identify style. I still create with similar flowing lines and shapes. My signature line is a curved swoop like the cow horns.
