I was visiting my parents this weekend and my Mom gave me this photo of ‘Little Laura’ from some old photo-albums she was going through.

I smiled and cried when I looked at her.  What a precious little face with those big blue eyes.  So many magical ideas stored inside her heart looking to see their reflection matched outside of her.   I remember the confusion I felt when I looked around and realized there weren’t any unicorns roaming through the forest. I can see “Where is my magic land?” written all over her face.

 

I didn’t understand it at the time, but this created a deep sadness in me and an overall sense of displacement. My heart was broken in a truly non-logical way. My inner world didn’t match the outer world and I felt lost.

I would have easily forgotten about this, but things kept reminding me there was something missing. Random temper tantrums kept calling me back to remember. But remember what?

I whizzed by many of those moments feeling they were distractions to my path, slowing me down from the success I wanted, and shaming me with such immature behavior.   It has taken many years and tears to realize that the success I want is to feel the magic, love and beauty of my Inner Child reflected in the world around us.

In order to mirror that kind of love to her I had to become her sacred guardian and remember our shared purpose to create love and magic in this world.

I believe all of us have an Inner Child calling us back to remember. Remember our shared purpose to love ourselves and cherish the unique dream that is planted in our heart. We couldn’t do it alone as children, we needed our adult Self to take the actions and carry it through.

It was serendipitous to receive this photo on the same day the registration opened for the 2016 nü Icon Program.  This is the first year I added a special section in the nü Icon program about our Inner Child.  Even though the nü Icon Program teaches about business, entrepreneurship and how to make money, I believe the only way to truly create the life and career of your dreams is to understand the origin of your dreams and the child that carried the magical seeds of those dreams from the beginning.
